Care Worker Process
At Tamworth Home Care Limited, we understand that inviting someone into your home is a big decision. That's why we have a thorough recruitment, training, and assessment process to ensure every member of our team is caring, compassionate, and fully prepared to provide safe, high-quality care.
Step 1 – Careful Recruitment
We recruit people who share our values of kindness, dignity, respect, and compassion. Every applicant goes through a comprehensive interview process where we assess their experience, attitude, communication skills, and suitability for working in care.
Step 2 – Enhanced DBS Check
Before anyone can begin working with us, they must successfully complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This helps ensure they are suitable to work with vulnerable adults and provides additional reassurance for our clients and their families.
Step 3 – Employment References
We obtain and carefully review professional references to verify each applicant's employment history, reliability, and suitability for a care role. References form an important part of our safer recruitment process.
Step 4 – Comprehensive Training
All new care staff complete mandatory training before providing care independently. This includes topics such as:
-
Safeguarding Adults
-
Moving and Handling
-
Medication Administration
-
Infection Prevention and Control
-
First Aid Awareness
-
Dementia Awareness
-
Mental Capacity Act & Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
-
Food Hygiene
-
Health and Safety
-
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
-
Person-Centred Care
-
End of Life Awareness
-
Communication Skills
-
Fire Safety
Where required, carers also receive specialist training to meet the individual needs of the people they support.
Step 5 – Shadowing an Experienced Carer
Before working alone, every new member of staff spends time shadowing experienced care professionals. During this period they observe visits, learn our standards of care, build confidence, and become familiar with each client's individual needs and preferences.
Our management team only signs carers off to work independently when they have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to provide safe, compassionate care.
Step 6 – Ongoing Competency Assessments
Learning doesn't stop once a carer begins working independently. We regularly carry out competency assessments, observations and spot checks to ensure our staff continue to deliver the highest standards of care.
These assessments include:
-
Medication Competency Checks
-
Practical Care Observations
-
Moving & Handling Assessments
-
Documentation Audits
-
Supervisions
-
Annual Appraisals
-
Refresher Training
Step 7 – Continuous Professional Development
We are committed to helping our staff grow throughout their careers. Our carers receive regular refresher training, updates in best practice, and opportunities to complete additional qualifications and specialist courses.
Our Promise
Every member of the Tamworth Home Care team is carefully recruited, thoroughly trained, and continually supported to provide compassionate, safe, and person-centred care. We believe this commitment to quality gives our clients and their families complete confidence in the people who support them every day.
